CEDAR CREST COLLEGE ANNOUNCES NEW FACULTY APPOINTMENTS
Allentown, PA (September 21, 2007) - Cedar Crest College announces the following appointments to its faculty:
Marie Wilde, associate professor of mathematics and computer science, has been appointed as Director of Institutional Research, a newly created position which will serve to centralize and make consistent data collection, and assist the College in its future planning. For the past three years, she has served the College as Associate Provost. For many years the Chair of the Mathematical and Information Sciences Department, Marie also chaired the Business Department from 2000 to 2002. In 1995 she was the winner of the Alumnae Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, and in 1997 she received the Advisor of the Year Award.
Dr. Kathy Boland, associate professor of social work has been named Associate Provost. At Cedar Crest, Dr. Boland has had leadership roles in the assessment of the Democracy Project and the Health and Wellness initiative. She is also Research Coordinator for the Health and Wellness Conference. She was the only junior faculty member to chair a Middle States Subcommittee, Institutional Assessment, during our 10-year self-study. She has just completed a year as Chair of the Faculty Personnel Committee. In addition to the many roles that she plays at the College, she continues to present and publish in her area of research interest, ethics.
Casey McDonough, Assistant Professor - Professor McDonough joins the art department faculty as a ceramics teacher. Previously, he taught ceramics at Rhode Island School of Design. McDonough received a B.A. in studio art from Eckerd College (St. Petersburg, FL) and a M.F.A in ceramics from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Ibolya Balog, Assistant Professor - Professor Balog is a Certified Public Accountant who comes to Cedar Crest having served as a senior manager at Parente Randolph LLC since 1992. Prior to that, she served as a senior accountant with Cohen & Rogozinski CPAs. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs, the Institute of Management Accountants where she served as president of the Lehigh Valley Chapter, and the American Woman's Society of Certified Public Accountants. Balog is active in the Lehigh Valley community as a member of the Rotary Club of Allentown, treasurer of the Allentown Symphony Association board, the Lehigh County Conference of Churches board investment committee chair, and former president of the West Park Civic Association. She received her BA from Lehigh University and her MBA from Temple University. At Cedar Crest, she will teach courses in accounting.
Chemical & Physical Sciences
Brian Gestring, Assistant Professor - Professor Gestring brings a wide range of teaching and professional experience to the forensic science department at Cedar Crest. Most recently, he was associate professor and director of the undergraduate and graduate forensic sciences programs at Pace University (New York, NY). He also served as a supervisory criminalist in the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner's World Trade Center Identification Unit and Forensic Analysis and Reconstruction Unit. He has also served as a forensic consultant for NBC Productions - Universal Television Entertainment and Enslow Publishing. Gestring is certified by the International Association for Identification as a Senior Crime Scene Analyst and has provided training, published research and given lectures in the field of forensic science. He received a master's degree in forensic science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice/CUNY in New York City. At Cedar Crest, Gestring will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, including Crime Scene Reconstruction and Advanced Crime Scene Reconstruction.
Roseann Flyte, Instructor of Nursing - Flyte has been a nurse at Lehigh Valley Hospital for more than 20 years, working in many areas including Neonatal ICU, Home Healthcare and the Cancer Risk Assessment Program. She received a master of science in nursing from the University of Phoenix (Phoenix, AZ) and bachelor of science in nursing from Cedar Crest College. She will teach courses in pediatrics and fundamentals.
Lisa Heelan, Instructor of Nursing - Heelan comes to Cedar Crest from New York City where she worked as a staff nurse at Mt. Sinai Hospital, a public health nurse with the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, a nurse practitioner at Saint Vincent's Hospital AIDS Center and most recently as a nurse practitioner in the health services department at Columbia University. She obtained her master's degree in nursing and a post master's certificate as a family nurse practitioner from Columbia University. She also obtained a post master's certificate in nursing education from the College of Mount Saint Vincent (Riverdale, NY). She will teach courses in community nursing and maternal/child nursing.
Karen Lightcap, Instructor of Nursing - Lightcap joins the Cedar Crest nursing department having previously been a member of the nursing faculty in the Practical Nursing Program at Schuylkill Technology Center (Frackville, PA). She has also served as a registered nurse at a number of Pennsylvania hospitals including Shamokin Area Community Hospital in Coal Township, PA. Lightcap earned her master of science in nursing/healthcare education from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor of science from Cedar Crest College. She will teach courses in medical/surgical nursing.
Lisa Shustack, Instructor of Nursing - Shustack joins the Cedar Crest nursing department having previously been a member of the nursing faculty in the Practical Nursing Program at Schuylkill Technology Center (Frackville, PA). She has also served as a registered nurse in the Medical Surgical Unit and Maternal Child Health Unit at Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic in Pottsville, PA. Shustack earned her master of science in nursing/healthcare education from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor of science from Cedar Crest College. She will teach courses in medical/surgical nursing.
