A SEUSSENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OF READING AT CEDAR CREST COLLEGE

Allentown, PA (February 26, 2004) - In commemoration of Dr. Suess's 100th birthday, the Lutz Center for Community Service at Cedar Crest College will host a celebration of reading on Wednesday, March 3 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Lees Gymnasium. Children from several local programs - including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley, the Boys and Girls Club of Allentown and other local after-school programs will participate in the event.

Cedar Crest faculty, staff and students will host a variety of stations where the children will take part in reading activities and games. The children will read from books such as "The Lorax," "The Giving Tree" and "Oh! The Places You'll Go!" while also working on creative activities such as making bookmarks, potting plants and making magnetic poetry.

"This event is aimed at getting children more excited about reading," says Mary McKenna, Event Coordinator. "By combining fun activities with reading, I hope the children become motivated to read new books and realize that there is a lot that can be learned from a book." This event highlights the College's commitment to community service. Last year, Cedar Crest students performed over 18,000 hours of community service in the Lehigh Valley.

The event is free and open to the community, but please call 610-606-4666 Ext.3538 to inform the Lutz Center for Community Service how many children will be attending. Children must wear sneakers.
