Recycled Art Sculptor Virginia Abbott on Campus Wednesday as Part of RecycleMania
As part of the continuing RecycleMania program on campus, local recycled art sculptor Virginia Abbott will discuss her work on Wednesday, February 3, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Harmon Hall. Abbott, a graduate of York Academy of Arts, creates small-scale sculptures out of cast paper that resemble bronze sculptures. She has earned numerous honors for her work, including the NSS’s Youth Award, Gloria Medal and Ben Franklin Award, as well as the prestigious Malvina Hoffman Bronze Horses Head Award from the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in New York City. In addition to the talk about recycled art, Abbott will provide a demonstration on how to make recycled art using paper egg cartons. A reception with refreshments will follow the presentation.
Wednesday also marks the beginning of the recycled art competition, during which students have until March 1 to create recycled art pieces no larger than the size of a shoe box. Pieces will be displayed from March 1-4 in Butz Basement Lounge, and will be judged by the campus community during a brief reception there from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on March 4.
