Writers’ Series Presents Ben Winters: October 24
The Cedar Crest College Department of Humanities and the Cultural Programs Committee will host author Ben H. Winters as part of the 2012-2013 Writers’ Series. The presentation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in the 1867 Room of Tompkins College Center.
Winters is the author of the New York Times Best Seller Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. Other works include the science fiction Android Karenina, The Secret Life of Ms. Finkleman (nominated for an Edgar award and named the Bank Street College Best Children’s Book of 2011), The Mystery of the Missing Everything (sequel to The Secret Life of Ms. Finkleman), and the supernatural thriller Bedbugs. Bedbugs has recently been picked up by Warner Bros. for adaptation to the big screen.
Winters has also written several books and musicals for younger audiences. Works include The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, A (Tooth) Fairy Tale, and Uncle Pirate, which is based off the award-winning children’s book by Douglas Rees.
Winters’ latest novel, The Last Policeman, arrived on bookshelves in July. Published by Quirk Books, The Last Policeman tells the story of Hank Palace, a policeman who solves crimes as a meteor makes its way to Earth. Set in a pre-apocalyptic United States, The Last Policeman, the first in a trilogy, challenges readers to think about what they would do if they only had a certain amount of time left on Earth.
Following the presentation, there will be a reception and book signing. For information call 610-606-4666, ext. 3389.
