Welcome Back Festival Winner Collects iPad2 from President Ambar
First-year student Erin Schaeffer won the grand prize for the 2011 Welcome Back Festival in September—an iPad2, courtesy of the president's office. Schaeffer collected her prize on Oct. 5, when she met up with an excited President Carmen Twillie Ambar.
"I use my iPad for many things and carry it with me everywhere. I love the fact that it's portable and I thought it would be the perfect giveaway for our students so they can study and do homework wherever they are," said Ambar, who had her candy apple red iPad nearby. She spent several minutes explaining the finer points of using the iPad to Schaeffer, whose new white iPad2 is a more powerful, sleeker version that also includes a camera. Schaeffer was very excited by her good fortune.
"This was kind of an accident, because I was walking around campus wondering what was going on, and decided to join the fun (of the Welcome Back Festival)," she said. "I was shocked when I won, and also very excited. I plan on using it as a take home computer and as a way to help me research papers on the go."
During their conversation, Schaeffer disclosed that she is a triplet—a point of interest for Ambar, since she is the mother of four-year-old triplets Luke, Gabrielle and Daniel.
This year marked the second annual Welcome Back Festival. Schaeffer and others won prizes by visiting designated locations on campus, and submitting their completed entry forms.
