Cedar Crest College Offers Workshop on Japanese Bunraku Puppetry this Weekend
Cedar Crest College is hosting a two-day puppetry workshop titled, "Found Object Bunraku," on Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, November 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Alumnae Hall.
During the workshop, Vivian Appler—an artist and adjunct professor at The College of William & Mary—will introduce students to ensemble puppet manipulation inspired by traditional, Japanese Bunraku puppetry. Communicating predominantly through breath and group impulse, participants will learn to create compelling theater using little more than their bodies, breath and found objects.
At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Appler will present a public lecture in Alumnae Hall auditorium that provides an overview of the history and applications of Bunraku puppetry. The workshop and presentation are free and open to the public. For information contact Art Department Chair Jill Odegaard at firstname.lastname@example.org or 610-606-4666, ext. 3347.
