Holiday Cook Off Showcases Culinary Talents of Cedar Crest College Community

The first-ever Cedar Crest College Holiday Cook Off was held during lunch Monday, with the college community enjoying nearly two dozen homemade soups, salads, appetizers, entrées and desserts from their colleagues, and voting for their favorite dishes.

First Place: corn chowder, Lydia Orban
Second Place: Polish borscht, Peg Shupp

Salad
First Place: broccoli slaw, Elouise Schreffler
Second Place: dijon chicken salad, Chrys Fazakas

Appetizers
First Place: onion herb tartlets, Marie Wilde
Second Place: hickory smoked salmon dip, Mike Ortiz

Entrees
First Place: garlic roasted winter veggies, Barb Carlson
Second Place: creamy baked fettuccine, Chrys Fazakas

Desserts
First Place: holiday magic cocoa, Stacie Gower and Lori Williams
Second Place: holiday Yule log, Diane Gehringer

First and second place finishers earned prizes ranging from Cedar Crest College paraphernalia, to cookbooks, to Longaberger baskets, etc.

Honorable mention entrees included: garden herb cheese bread, Kyle Suzanne Crimi; baked potstickers, Rita Doherty; toasted mushroom rolls, Susan Misanko; peanut butter fudge, Lynda Yohe; banana swirl bread, Lesley Jones; cream cheese cookies, Kelsey Hart; cherry curry chicken delight, Roxxi Shupp; Caribbean shrimp and vegetable soup, Lynn Ritter; beef BBQ, by Allison Valentine; copper pennies, Peg Shupp; cranberry jalapeno relish, Pat Moran; baby spinach salad with fruited vinaigrette, Lesley Jones.
