'Handel Meets Tchaikovsky and More' as College Hosts Free Holiday Concert Sunday

Handel Meets Tchaikovsky and MoreThe Cedar Crest Performing Arts Department presents "Handel Meets Tchaikovsky and More," a free holiday concert for the public this Sunday, December 6, at 2 p.m. in the Samuels Theater of Tompkins College Center.  The concert includes seasonal selections performed by the College’s Instrumental and Flute Ensembles, All College Women's Chorus, Cedar Crest Singers, and soloists. Dot Hemerly, the musical director of the vocal groups and the Instrumental Ensemble, said the concert will include something for everyone. Elaine Martin will direct the Flute Ensemble.

Some of the highlights will include the College’s Instrumental Ensemble performing selections from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite, as well as familiar, sing-a-long carols. The All College Women’s Chorus will present selections from Handel’s Messiah, and the Cedar Crest Singers—formerly the Madrigal Singers—will present "Joyful, Joyful" from the movie Sister Act 2. Cedar Crest College senior Michelle Schmidt will present a solo of "We Shall Behold Him."
