Forensic Speech Team Competes Well at Wilkes

Katie HydeThe Cedar Crest College forensic speech team earned several awards during a competition at Wilkes University from Feb. 4-6. The team competed in a series of tournaments during the weekend, with most members placing in the top five in their respective categories.

Senior Katie Hyde placed first in persuasive speaking at Sunday’s competition. Senior Toni Byers also placed first in poetry interpretation on Sunday. Other Cedar Crest students who placed during the competition were senior Megan Newtown, junior Haleigh Washburn and first-year student Erin Studer. In addition to the first place finishes, members of the team placed third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place in various categories such as duo interpretation, informative speaking, program oral interpretation, prose interpretation, and editorial impromptu.

The Forensic Speech Team just competed in the “Virginia Is for Lovers” Tournament at James Madison University, and they will participate in the Pennsylvania State Forensic Speech Tournament next weekend. Look for results soon on the Cedar Crest College home page.
