Cedar Crest Forensic Speech Team Produces Three State Champions
The Cedar Crest College Forensic Speech Team produced three state champions and a second place overall team finish in the state championship competition the weekend of Feb. 19-21 at California University of Pennsylvania.
Senior Chealsea Anagnoson placed first in prose interpretation, third in dramatic interpretation, sixth in poetry interpretation and seventh in both after dinner speaking and duo interpretation; Junior Katie Hyde placed first in poetry interpretation, third in both duo interpretation and program oral interpretation, sixth in after dinner speaking, and sixth overall in individual sweeps; Senior Kat Stevenson placed first in program oral interpretation, second in dramatic interpretation and seventh in duo interpretation; Senior Alisha Heilman placed third in duo interpretation, and fifth in the categories of communications analysis, poetry interpretation, impromptu speaking and persuasive speaking; and Junior Megan Newtown placed fourth in program oral interpretation and sixth in prose interpretation.
Tim Brown, director of the forensic speech department at Cedar Crest, said the team is progressing very well in advance of hosting the District Seven Regional Tournament on campus from March 5-7. The following month, several team members will be competing in the American Forensics Association National Tournament in Eau Claire, Wis.
