Cedar Crest College Students Perform Plays this Weekend to Benefit Global V-Day
Cedar Crest College students will raise awareness of violence against women on campus and beyond by performing in events tonight through Sunday as part of the annual global V-Day campaign. Tonight will feature A Memoir, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer, readings from a collection of male and female writers voicing their personal encounters in the battle to end violence against women and girls. On Saturday and Sunday evening, students will perform Eve Ensler’s famous play about female empowerment, The Vagina Monologues.
These performances will be held in the Alumnae Hall auditorium at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. They are sponsored by the Lutz Center for Community Service at Cedar Crest College and the Cedar Crest College Buskin Society, and proceeds benefit Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley and the Crime Victims Council.
Admission is $10 for the general public, and $5 for students with I.D. For information contact the Lutz Center for Community Service at 610-606-4666 ext. 3392 or email email@example.com.
V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues. To date, the V-Day movement has raised over $50 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it, crafted international educational, media and PSA campaigns, launched the Karama program in the Middle East, reopened shelters, and funded over 5,000 community-based anti-violence programs and safe houses in Kenya, South Dakota, Egypt and Iraq. The ‘V’ in V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine and Vagina. Info: http://www.vday.org
