Cedar Crest College recently held its college writing contest, which recognizes excellence in scholarly writing in both first-year composition and writing-in-the-discipline courses. Those with winning submissions include: First-Year Writing—First Place: Emily Bergey, “Discovering Education”; Second Place: Sara Barscheski, “Forgiveness: A Social Dilemma or Individual Dilemma?” Third Place: Amy Palmisano, “Two Unnecessary Evils: Allophilia and Xenophobia.” Writing-in-the-Discipline—First Place: Marilyn Barrell, “The Rationing of Healthcare”; Second Place: Sherry A. Kelley, “In My Kitchen”; Third Place: Autumn Drury, “The Hill.”

“We had a very competitive field of essays, and it’s always a delight to celebrate the thoughtfulness found in the writing produced by Cedar Crest students,” said Robert Wilson, assistant professor of English.

Contest winners will be awarded certificates and prize money at the annual writing reception this Sunday, April 25, at 3:30 p.m. in the 1867 Room of the Tompkins College Center. The campus community is invited. For information send e-mail to laorban@cedarcrest.edu.
