Reflections: Senior Artist Devin Ursini Discusses Her Work on Display Through May 15

Devin Ursini’s art is part of the Cedar Crest College Senior Art Exhibition, which will be displayed in the Lachaise Gallery in Miller Family Building through May 15. Her thoughts on the inspiration and motivation behind her work are below as the next in a series of brief articles on students participating in the exhibition.

“Two things have always influenced my art—nature and human social constructs. In the past I was largely focused on replicating nature in as many mediums as I could learn, but currently things have changed. While I am still intrigued by nature, I have begun to focus more on illustration as it applies to the human figure. Focusing on the natural beauty that occurs around me, the human body becomes more than just a focus on individuality and emotion, it becomes a living canvas for me to alter in order to seduce my audience into portraying raw emotion through their reaction.”

The Lachaise Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., as well as by appointment. For an appointment or additional information, contact Art Gallery Coordinator Brian Wiggins at 610-606-4666, ext. 3469.
