Nursing Students Earn Special Citation from Red Cross
Students in the nursing program at Cedar Crest College received the Special Citation for Exceptional Volunteer Service from the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley during the organization’s 2012 awards celebration and annual meeting on June 11.
For many years, nursing students at the College—under the direction of Instructor Dianne DeLong, Ph.D.—have volunteered their time to provide blood pressure screenings at the annual March is Red Cross Month community event at the Lehigh Valley Mall, which draws more than 300 people. In addition, nursing students volunteer their time at other Red Cross health fairs and venues. These efforts have helped to improve the overall health of the community.
According to Bill Coles, chairman of the board for the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley, the Cedar Crest College students are extremely professional and conscientious, and their efforts go a long way toward helping the organization reach its goals.
“The Red Cross is deeply grateful to Dr. DeLong for her cooperation in volunteering her time and that of her students to help the Red Cross,” said Coles. “They truly are an important part of our Red Cross family.”
