LEAD Program

The LEAD (Learn, Experience, Aspire, Distinguish) Program is a cutting-edge Cedar Crest College initiative designed to help self-motivated students, "become the next generation of global leaders." Students participating in the program will become more competent, confident, and better communicators; positioning themselves for greater personal and professional success.

LEAD was created to help students achieve greater competency in one of eight broad areas (Technology, Physical and Spiritual Development, Conflict Management, Communication, Professionalism, Appreciation of Diversity, Critical Thinking and Decision Making, and Community/Global Involvement) that business and community leaders indicate as important for success.

Students choose a faculty or staff professional to serve as their Leadership Mentor. The mentor will assist the student in creating self-designed developmental activities from each competency area. The program is designed to be completed over four years. However, students can adjust the time to complete the program in less than four years.

Students completing the program will receive a LEAD participant certificate. Participants interested in obtaining an advanced level of achievement can apply to be a LEAD Achiever. To obtain LEAD Achiever designation and recognition, students must complete additional activities and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.8. Additional activities that must be completed include; presenting at a campus or professional conference, a cumulative project that demonstrates overall proficiency based on a rubric and an interview with LEAD committee members. LEAD Achievers will be announced at the Annual Best of the Crest Ceremony and receive prominent recognition status on the Cedar Crest College.
