Consider these guidelines to better manage your stress and renew your energies:

They take personal control in their lives
They remain focused on the task at hand
They avoid stimulants or use them very rarely
They exercise regularly (aerobic)
They meditate or use relaxation exercises regularly
They are open to seeking social support
They have a sense of humor
They consider themselves to be spiritual


Consider these guidelines to better manage your stress and renew your energies:

1. Replenish your physiological resources:
a. Eat well
b. Exercise
c. Improve your sleep
2. Social Support
a. Get to know other students
b. Get involved with activities on campus
c. Talk to your professors
3. Recreation
a. Learn ways of renewing yourself (fun activities)
b. Put aside time for relaxation
c. Discover a new hobby
4. Be aware of your goals
a. Write down a list of goals that you wish to achieve
b. Focus on your goals and avoid distractions
c. Be willing to modify your goals when necessary
5. Personal growth
a. Try to learn about yourself
b. Look at your experiences as opportunities for growth
c. Do something for others not because you have to but because
you want to
6. Think positively
a. Teach yourself optimism
b. Confront negative thoughts
c. Remember, there is direct connection between thoughts and behavior—negative thinking will result in damaging behavior
7. Effectively deal with your negative thoughts
a. Talk about them
b. Write them down
c. Restructure them
8. Do not ignore your feelings
a. Your feelings are a part of you, they need to be at least
acknowledged
b. Avoiding feelings does not make them go away
c. By appropriately addressing your feelings you will live a
healthier life, both physically and emotionally
