Interlibrary Loan (ILL) FirstSearch Requests
(How To) Interlibrary Loan a Request through the FirstSearch Database:
If you are off-campus you will need to enter your User ID and password. For students, your User ID is your student ID number. Your password is your last name.
Once you are connected, click on the "Databases" tab or “List All Databases” under the "Home" tab.
If you are looking for a book, select WorldCat.
If you are looking for an article, select ArticleFirst.
You can select up to 3 databases, so you might want to also select MEDLINE (for all areas of medicine, including dentistry and nursing and some science) or MLA (literature, language, linguistics, folklore) -- depending on what you are looking for.
Next, click "Select" -- this takes you to the database(s) where you can begin your search.
Know that you have the option of a Basic Search or an Advanced Search —- see tabs toward the left of the screen above the search area.
Once you have entered your information, click "Search."
This will take you to a list of articles or books.
Click on the title of the article or book, which is underlined and highlighted in blue font.
This will provide additional information about the article or book, an abstract is usually included.
If the Library owns the material the system will show CEDAR CREST COL, CRESSMAN LIBR within the bibliographic record.
However, know that for journals the link is to the title only, so the Library may not own the years that you need.
To find out if the Library owns the year that you need click on the title.
Then click Search the catalog at your library. This takes you to the Library’s catalog and will indicate the years owned, the format, and the location within the library. If the journal is not fully listed there, check the Library's A-to-Z (E-Journals & Periodicals List). (You will see the link for it in the center of the gray bar once you are connected to the Library's iLink catalog).
If the Library does not own the material and you would like to request the item, click on “Borrow this item from another library” or the icon.
Enter the requested information, then click "Submit."
This will take you back to the bibliographic page in which you will see in the upper left hand corner Your resource sharing request was sent successfully.
Click the "List of Records" tab to return to the list of articles or books. Or, click the "Home" tab to begin a new search. Use the "Exit" link when you have finished!
