EASTERN HOLDS ON OVER FINAL MINUTES IN WIN OVER CEDAR CREST
Allentown, PA (January 19, 2008) – Cedar Crest’s Leann Wallower posted career-highs of 26 points and 11 rebounds, but it would not be enough as the Eastern University Eagles held on for a 65-61 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference victory on Saturday afternoon in Lees Gymnasium.
The contest, which saw 11 lead changes and six ties, was a close one from the opening tip-off. Eastern held a 10-9 advantage at the 13:29 mark in the first half before Wallower and junior Sarah Campbell hit back-to-back jumpers to give the Falcons the 13-10 lead.
Eastern went up by as many as seven with 6:11 remaining in the first half before Wallower nailed two jumpers and sophomore Kelly Oakes hit two foul shots to bring Cedar Crest within one. A tip-in by Wallower gave the Falcons the lead once again at the 1:24 mark before Eastern hit three foul shots down the stretch to take a 37-35 halftime lead.
The first six minutes of the second half were back and forth, leaving the game dead-locked at 48 for four minutes before Wallower made a fast-break layup on a pass from Oakes to give the Falcons the lead with 10:11 remaining.
Eastern hit some key free throws down the line to secure the victory.
Freshman Kelley Cipriani added 10 points and six rebounds, while Oakes posted nine points, nine assists, and seven boards. Sophomore Brittany Symbol hit a season-high seven points, while Campbell added six points and eight rebounds.
Eastern’s Hannah Tobin notched a team-high 15 points on the day.
The Falcons fall to 4-10 overall (0-7 PAC) on the season, while Eastern University improves to 2-11 overall (1-4 PAC).
Cedar Crest will return to action when they travel to Pennsylvania Athletic Conference foe Centenary College on Monday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m.
