CENTENARY SLIPS BY CEDAR CREST IN PAC BASKETBALL ACTION – WALLOWER HITS FOR 23 POINTS
Hackettstown, NJ (January 22, 2008) – Cedar Crest freshman Leann Wallower continued her hot shooting with a game-high 23 points in a 68-58 loss to Pennsylvania Athletic Conference opponent Centenary College on Monday evening at Folkner Family Gymnasium.
Centenary went on a 16-2 run over the first seven minutes of the contest before the Falcons got back-to-back layups from Wallower and sophomore Kelly Oakes.
Cedar Crest continued to chip away, cutting the lead, 29-21 with 2:06 remaining in the first half on a jumper by Oakes. The Cyclones took a 31-21 lead into the locker room on a last-second layup by Marissa DiStasio.
Centenary scored six unanswered points in the opening minutes of the second half to go up, 37-21. The Falcons would not go away, as they cut the lead, 52-46, with 7:38 remaining in the contest on two made free throws by Wallower.
The Cyclones capitalized on several key turnovers by the Falcons with just under three minutes remaining in the contest.
Oakes had another all-around game, posting 14 points, 17 rebounds, and three assists. This marks her team-high 10th double-double of the season. Junior Sarah Campbell also added 11 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
The Cyclones were led by Stephanie Roberts, who posted a team-high 21 points, and Ayana Way, who added 20 points.
The Falcons fall to 4-11 overall (0-8 PAC) on the season, while Centenary College improves to 8-4 overall (4-2 PAC).
Cedar Crest will return to action when they host Pennsylvania Athletic Conference rival Misericordia University on Thursday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m. In the two teams first meeting, the Falcons fell, 66-38, to Misericordia on Monday, January 14th.
