TENNIS DEFEATS PHILADELPHIA BIBLICAL UNIVERSITY IN SEASON OPENER

Langhorne, PA (September 1, 2007) – The Cedar Crest College  tennis team defeated host Philadelphia Biblical University, 9-0, in season opener on Saturday afternoon. 

In No. 1 singles action, sophomore Maria Mallery defeated Katie Aungst, 6-3, 6-1, while No. 2 Laura Shively outlasted Alicia Kline, 6-2, 6-0.  No. 3 singles Alex Kuebler posted her first collegiate victory over Melissa Chiasson, 6-0, 6-0. 

No. 4 Sarah Messner, a sophomore, posted two 6-0 wins over Cassndra Hartwell, while No. 5 Sarah Schopf and No. 6 Amy Dichter also notched their first collegiate victories with back-to-back 6-1 and 6-0 victories respectively over Laura Wronski and Barb Furhman. 

Mallery and Kuebler defeated Chiasson and Aungst, 8-0, in the No. 1 doubles spot, while Shively and Messner notched an 8-2 win over Hartwell and Kline.  No. 3 doubles Schopf and sophomore Kim Baksovich posted an 8-1 victory over Furhman and Wronski. 

Cedar Crest improves to 1-0 on the season and will travel to the College of St. Elizabeth on Thursday, September 6 for a 4:00 p.m. match.
