CEDAR CREST FIELD HOCKEY WINS BIG IN CONFERENCE OPENER OVER ROSEMONT


Rosemont, PA (September 17, 2008) – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team opened its Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a bang in a 4-1 victory over Rosemont College on Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman Emily Seifert took a pass from senior Heather Gallagher and scored the first goal of her collegiate career at the 20:31 mark in the first half to give the Falcons the 1-0 lead, which they would carry into halftime.

Gallagher then posted an unassisted tally to make it a 2-0 game just 1:44 into the start of the second half of play.

Sophomore Jessica Sanchez then sent junior Heather Rice the ball at the 16:08 mark to put the game at 3-0 in favor of Cedar Crest. 

Rice would notch her second tally of the contest off of a pass from sophomore Jessica Macko with 14:24 remaining in the game to make it 4-0.

Alex Benfold scored a goal for Rosemont with just over two minutes remaining in the contest.

Junior Rachel Orlen and freshman Falynn Strohl combined to make four saves in goal for Cedar Crest, while Rosemont’s Adreienne Demchenko posted 20 saves in the net for the Ramblers.

Cedar Crest held a 28-9 shot advantage and a 13-6 advantage in penalty corners.

This marks Cedar Crest’s first win since the 2006 season. 

Cedar Crest improves to 1-3 overall (1-0 CSAC), while Rosemont falls to 1-5 overall (0-2 CSAC).

Cedar Crest will host St. Vincent College this Friday, September 19 at 4:00 p.m. in non-league action.
