GWYNEDD-MERCY TOPS CEDAR CREST IN LEAGUE PLAY

Gwynedd Valley, PA (April 7, 2008) – Sophomore Kelly Oakes posted a team-high four goals, but it would not be enough as the Cedar Crest College lacrosse team dropped a 19-6 decision to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Monday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action. 

The Griffins took a quick 3-0 lead before Oakes notched a goal at 24:05 to cut the lead, 3-1.  Gwynedd’s Bridget Gibson fired in a free position shot just one minute later before sophomore Brittany Symbol added a goal for the Falcons to put the score at 4-2 in favor of Gwynedd-Mercy. 

Gwynedd posted two more goals before Oakes added another with 17:30 remaining in the first half to make it a 6-3 contest.  Gwynedd-Mercy then went on an 8-0 run over the next 12 minutes of the game to take a 14-3 lead.  Oakes and sophomore Amanda Dombroski posted back-to-back goals with just under five minutes remaining in the half.  The Griffins would post one more goal with four seconds remaining to put the half time score at 15-5 in favor of Gwynedd.

Cedar Crest held the Griffins for the first 15 minutes of the second half before Kristie Pollock notched a goal.  Oakes scored the Falcons last goal at the 13:40 mark before Gwynedd posted four more goals to close out the half. 

The Griffins were led by Colleen Dellostretto who tallied a game-high five goals and posted one assist.

Cedar Crest falls to 1-9 (1-6 PAC) on the season, while Gwynedd improves to 6-4 (5-1 PAC).

The Falcons will travel to Bryn Mawr College on Thursday, April 10 at 4:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
