ALVERNIA LACROSSE POSTS WIN OVER CEDAR CREST IN PAC ACTION
Allentown, PA (March 29, 2008) – Despite holding the early lead, the Cedar Crest College lacrosse team could not hold on as Alvernia College defeated the Falcons, 21-10, on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action.
Cedar Crest took an early 3-2 advantage on a goal by sophomore Amanda Dombroski who took a pass from sophomore Kelly Oakes at the 13:42 mark in the first half. Alvernia quickly responded with three unanswered goals to make it a 5-3 Alvernia advantage. Sophomore Mackenzie Lee tallied a goal to bring the Falcons within one, but the Knights again answered with two goals. Oakes who notch one more goal before the end of the half, but it wasn’t enough to handle Alvernia’s 11-5 halftime lead.
Alvernia scored just 23 seconds into the second half, but Dombroski added her second goal of the contest at the 26:37 mark on a free position shot. The Knights then scored three unanswered goals before sophomore Bailey Bedell posted her second tally of the contest to make it a 15-7 contest. The Knights would score three more times until sophomore Brittany Symbol posted back-to-back goals. Alvernia scored three more times before Symbol ended the scoring with an unassisted tally with 21 seconds remaining.
Alvernia was led by Katie O’Brien and Felisha Sippel who tallied six goals each in the victory for the Knights.
The Falcons fall to 1-6 (1-3 PAC) on the season, while Alvernia improves to 1-4 (1-1 PAC).
The Falcons will host Cabrini College on Tuesday, April 1 at 4:00 p.m. in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action.
