SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM CENTENARY IN PAC MATCHUP
Allentown, PA (March 29, 2008) - The Cedar Crest College softball team returned to its winning ways by defeating PAC rival Centenary College by scores of 4-0 and 5-1.
In game one, freshman Lisa Cassavaugh and junior Alyssa Kabat each scored in the bottom of the fourth to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead and senior Mel Devlin and junior Alyssa Bonner added two more in the fifth for a 4-0 game. Bonner and Kabat each had two hits for the Falcons, while classmate Allison Holland pitched all seven innings, striking out four and walking just one batter.
Centenary took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two, until Cassavaugh scored off a Maria Mallery double to even the score at 1. Junior Tasha Breiner hit a three-run homer for the 4-1 lead and Cedar Crest added another run in the fifth for the 5-1 final. Freshman Kim Larrabee had a triple and sophomore Maria Mallery had 2 RBIs on the day. Kabat pitched all seven innings of the second game.
The Falcons improve to 10-7 overall (4-2 PAC), while the Cyclones drop to 2-8 (0-4 PAC). Cedar Crest will travel to the University of Scranton Tuesday, April 1 for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference game.
