January 30 update: Presidential Search Committee established, transition website to go live
Dear Cedar Crest Community,
With the first month of 2018 almost complete, I wanted to provide you with an update of the progress made by the Board of Trustees toward selecting the next President of Cedar Crest College.
Over this past summer and early fall, a small group of Executive Committee members researched best practices related to presidential searches, reached out to industry experts to gain additional insights and perspectives, and developed a broad framework and timeline for the Board’s consideration. At the Board of Trustees meeting in October 2017, the Board reviewed, discussed and ultimately approved this framework and timeline for moving forward with the process. The Board charged the Executive Committee with establishing a Presidential Search Committee to include membership that is broadly representative of the Cedar Crest community. The Board also tasked the Executive Committee with acquiring the services of a qualified executive search firm to assist both the Search Committee and Board in its future efforts.
Presidential Search Committee
A committee has recently been established and its membership, contained in the attached document, has been reported to the Board of Trustees. The committee is comprised of fourteen voting members including six trustees, four faculty, two members of the administration, one alumnae representative, and one student representative. As Chair of the Board, I will be serving as an ex-officio, non-voting member; and the Secretary to the Board and the Director of Human Resources will also assist this committee in non-voting roles.
The Search Committee’s charge is to recommend to the Board of Trustees a select number of highly qualified finalist candidates for consideration by the Board as the next President of Cedar Crest College. The Executive Committee, in its deliberations to establish the final membership composition of the Presidential Search Committee, was significantly aided by robust lists of more than highly qualified candidates from each of the respective College constituencies. These lists allowed the Executive Committee to select and best balance the final member composition across the various constituencies and across multiple dimensions. The Executive Committee and the Board specifically asked that I convey, on their behalf, their sincere and deepest appreciation to everyone who expressed their willingness and desire to serve.
Executive Search Firm
The Executive Committee has received and is reviewing proposals from four very qualified search firms and intends to award a contract to one of these firms by the second week in February.
Presidential Transition Website
An online resource for continual updates on the Presidential Transition process is currently under construction. The site will be publicly accessible through the College’s website and will include this and future notices from the Search Committee. We will notify the campus community when the site is live.
We are now officially underway in our journey to select the next President of this wonderful institution. As this process moves forward, the Board and the Search Committee look forward to the many opportunities that will allow everyone across the Cedar Crest community (faculty, staff, students, and alumnae) to engage in this process, and share their feedback and ideas about the characteristics and attributes that we collectively desire and need in our next President to lead us into the future.
Thank you in advance for what I know will be your thoughtful participation in this critically important process.
David P. Keller
Chair of the Board, Cedar Crest College
