Advisory Board

Karianne M. Gelinas

Karianne M. GelinasMs. Gelinas helps the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation better understand the region’s labor market dynamics. She works closely with LVEDC’s Education and Talent Supply Council and helps develop plans to obtain workforce supply and demand data from educational institutions and employers within the Lehigh Valley. She previously worked for seven years at Lehigh Carbon Community College, most recently as Assistant Director of Literacy and Job Training.

Ms. Gelinas has a Master of Education with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science from Vassar College.

Joané W. Hockenbury

Joané W. HockenburyJoané Hockenbury is the Vice President of Human Resources and Environmental Safety & Health at Just Born Quality Confections, a family owned candy company that manufactures PEEPS®, MIKE AND IKE®, HOT TAMALES® and GOLDENBERG’S® PEANUT CHEWS® candy brands.

Joané joined Just Born in 2002 and has worked in many areas of the business including customer service, IT, and HR. In her current role, she is responsible for strategy and functional aspects of Human Resources, Environmental Health and Safety, Internal Communications and Office Services. Including labor relations, compensation, benefits, associate rewards, talent management, recruiting, organizational development, associate learning and development, associate engagement, and employment services. Joané is a firm believer that leadership, at all levels of an organization, is necessary to build a sustainable, effective, respectful culture.

Prior to joining Just Born, Joané worked for an engineering firm specializing in research and development of specialized signal leakage detection equipment for the cable tv industry. She was responsible for the overall administrative and management functions.

She graduated from The Wescoe School of Muhlenberg College with a BS in Human Resources and a MS in Organizational Development & Leadership from St. Joseph’s University. She holds a PHR and SHRM-CP certification, as well as certifications in change management, emotional intelligence and DiSC®. She is an avid volunteer and was honored to be awarded Volunteer of the Year by the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley in 2010. She served as President and board member of Dream Come True and board member of Northeast Ministries. She is currently on the board of Society of Human Resource Management, Lehigh Valley (SHRMLV), Advisory Board for Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School, and on the Board for Forum for Ethics in the Workplace.

Joané and her husband, Terence, are the proud parents of two children and two amazing grandchildren.

Rick Kerner

Sharon Scheirer

Sharon ScheirerSharon Scheirer received her BS from Penn State and her Master’s degree from Kutztown.  With over 30 years of HR experience, Sharon has worked for Fortune 500 organizations as well as her family’s commercial construction business.  Sharon currently directs the college relations function for St. Luke’s University Health Network. 

In addition to working with educational institutions across the Lehigh Valley, she mentors employees with regards to future career plans and runs the weekly new hire orientation program. 

Charles Thomasset

Charles TomassetCharles is currently a senior project manager with the Project Management Office at East Penn Manufacturing where he leads a variety of growth initiatives adding up to over $200 million in capital investment. Past experience include process improvement at higher education institutions, business development in Europe, Africa, Mexico and China, consulting and marketing for economic development organizations, and ERP implementation for a French manufacturer in the USA.

Since 2010, he has been an adjunct instructor for the School of Professional Studies at Albright College.

Charles graduated from West Chester University with an MBA and Bachelor degree in Business Administration, and from Grenoble Business School in France. He has since completed training and certification in project management, new product development, change management, lean six sigma, agile and ITIL.

Kristin Lorenzo (Student Representative)

Kristin LorenzoKristin is a Human Resource Business Partner at Jetson Specialty Marketing in Kutztown, PA, where she focuses on strategic initiatives to improve retention, employee engagement and succession planning. She graduated summa cum laude from Cedar Crest College, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Human Resource Certificate. She previously worked for a global manufacturing company for seven years as a Human Resource Generalist where she obtained experience with employee and labor relations. Before that, she worked in retail management for several years and lived in New York City.

Currently she is working towards a Master of Business Administration at Cedar Crest College and plans on pursuing a career as an adjunct professor in addition to her human resource profession.

David Burke, Faculty Member

David BurkeDavid has taught at UMass Dartmouth, Cabrini University and the University of Delaware.  David's background is in speaking, consulting, training and leadership development. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Business, Management & Economics at Cedar Crest College 

He holds a Doctorate in Education, Organizational Leadership & Higher Education from Wilmington University and a Master of Management, from Goldey-Beacom College.
