Graduating Senior Frequently Asked Questions

What is the new date of Commencement?

Commencement (graduation) is rescheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2020.

What is the time of the Commencement Recognition?

Graduates will select an available time on August 15, 2020 that works best for them individually. Commencement Recognition will run from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. When graduates complete the RSVP form; they will be given the opportunity to select a time that works best for them.

Will the Commencement Recognition still be held at the PPL Center?

No, Commencement Recognition will be held on the Cedar Crest College campus.

Why are you calling it Commencement Recognition?

The Commencement Recognition will be an opportunity for individual graduates and their families to celebrate together the important milestone of graduating from Cedar Crest College. The event that is being planned will be a time for individual recognition by the College for each graduate who wishes to participate. Because the event will focus on the individual graduates, some of the more traditional experiences that are included in a Commencement Ceremony like student, alumnae, faculty, or guest speakers will not take place.

What will happen at this Commencement Recognition?

Each graduate that signs up to participate will have an individual opportunity to have their name and degree program announced by Provost Wilson, receive a diploma cover, get a picture with President Meade, receive an alumnae pin from the Alumnae Association, and have the opportunity to take pictures on the campus grounds in cap and gown.

Can my family and friends take photos?

Yes, family and friends who attend will be given the opportunity to take a photo when you receive your diploma cover. The College will also have a professional photographer take pictures of each graduate with President Meade, as well as pictures of each individual graduate in their cap and gown. The pictures that are taken by the professional photographer will be made available for purchase a few weeks after the Commencement Recognition. More details about the professional photography will be provided to those graduates who participate in the Commencement Recognition.

Where on campus will the Commencement Recognition take place?

The location of the Commencement Recognition is being finalized by the Commencement Committee. This event will take place rain or shine. Additional information will be provided to
graduates once the details are available.

Will the Commencement Recognition take place inside or outside?

The goal of the Commencement Committee is to host the Commencement Recognition outdoors to take advantage of the beauty of the campus. Once the details are finalized by the Commencement Committee information will be provided to graduates.

If I already submitted my response for participating in May and/or August, do I need to do that again?

Yes, all graduates need to RSVP by completing the following form. The form will allow you to select a time when you will participate in the Commencement Recognition on August 15, 2020.

What is the last day to submit my RSVP if I wish to participate in the Commencement Recognition?

All responses must be completed by Wednesday, July 22, 2020.

Since Commencement Recognition will be held on campus, will tickets be needed?

At this time, family members and friends will not require a ticket to see you receive your diploma cover.

Will the number of family and friends be restricted?

At this time, the Commencement Planning Committee is still working on finalizing how many
people can attend the event with each graduate so the College can maintain a safe and healthy environment for all guests in compliance with required social distancing guidelines. More details will be provided once information is available.

Will family members and friends be required to wear a mask?

Yes, all guests will be required to wear a mask while on campus.

Will I be required to wear a mask for the event?

Yes, at this time masks will be required if you wish to participate in the Commencement Recognition. There may be an opportunity to take masks off for photography. Further information will be provided about that at a later date.

Do I still have to pay the graduation fee?

Yes, the graduation fee covers more than just Commencement, such as expenses like the printing and mailing of your diploma.

ACADEMICS

Can I still earn my degree or certificate if I do not participate in the Commencement Recognition?

Yes, once you have satisfied academic and other requirements, your degree or certificate will be conferred. Upcoming degree conferral dates are 8/24/2020 and 1/4/2021.

Can I still receive my diploma?

Yes, after your degree or certificate conferral date, your diploma will be mailed to you once all financial obligations to the College have been met.

How will I get my honor cords since Baccalaureate is canceled?

Honor cords will be available for pick up during check in on August 15, 2020.

CAP AND GOWN

The cap and gown website is no longer open, how do I order a cap and gown?

If you did not order your cap and gown by the June 12, 2020 deadline, the Campus Bookstore will have caps and gowns available that you can use on August 15, 2020.

How do I cancel my cap and gown order if I can no longer attend the new date?

This information will be provided by the Campus Bookstore.

How do I get my cap and gown?

Cap and gown orders will be available for pick up the week of August 10, 2020 at the Campus Bookstore. If you are not able to come to campus until the day of Commencement Recognition, the Campus Bookstore will be available for you to pick up your cap and gown on August 15, 2020 at check-in.

How do I get the stole I ordered?

Stoles will be available for pick up once the Campus Bookstore reopens at the beginning of August. If you are not able to come to campus until the day of Commencement Recognition, stoles will be available at check-in on August 15, 2020.

Can I still order a stole?

Yes, stoles can still be ordered once the Campus Bookstore reopens at the beginning of August.

Can I cancel my stole order and get a refund?

Yes, once the Campus Bookstore reopens at the beginning of August, they will provide information on how to cancel a stole order and get a refund.
