Mr. Thomas H. Pritchett, Chair

Purpose: The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is comprised of four faculty members and a community member with no affiliation to the College. The IRB is designed to protect the rights and safety, as well as the emotional and physical well-being, of human research participants. All research involving human participants must be evaluated by the IRB; this goes for research being conducted by faculty, as well as for research being conducted by students under faculty supervision.
Process: It is the responsibility of the primary investigator on any project to submit a proposal for IRB approval prior to commencing the research project. This submission must be complete and accurate in order for approval to be granted.
The IRB reviews research proposals from all members of the Cedar Crest College community (faculty and students) and researchers from other institutions.
The lead researcher on the proposal should submit the application for review. The required forms are found below AND on the IRB application. The forms must be downloaded and submitted with the research application. No proposal will be reviewed without the proper forms attached.
See the IRB Rules and Regulations document for more detailed information on the approval process.
All IRB Proposals are submitted using the link below:
Complete the requested application information and attach the forms. The IRB Research Supplement Form is required for all submissions. The IRB Consent Form (Template) is also required for all submissions. The IRB Consent Record Slip (Template) is required for conducting in-person research.
When conducting online survey research, the informed consent form must be attached to the solicitation email. The first survey question must ask the participant to indicate that they have read the informed consent form and agree to participate.
IRB Research Description Supplement (Template): This document is in a format that allows you to download, edit (tailor to your own needs), upload with your proposal. It may also be found on the IRB application.
IRB Consent Form (Template): This document is in a format that allows researchers to download, edit (tailor to their own needs), and upload with your proposal. One copy of the consent form will be given to each participant to keep for their records for in-person research or attach to a solicitation email for online research. This form may also be found on the IRB application.
IRB Consent Record Slip (Template): This document is in a format that allows researchers to download, edit (tailor to their own needs), and upload with your proposal. One copy of the consent record slip will be signed by each participant; these must be kept for a period of at least one full year (in-person research). This form is also located on the IRB application.
