DanceWorks is a dynamic dance showcase featuring original pieces choreographed and performed by current students. All are welcome to audition!
Show times: Thurs-Sat Nov 20-22 at 7pm, Sun Nov 23 at 3pm
Students who are cast in DanceWorks will receive .5 credit per piece.
AUDITION SCHEDULE
Tuesday, Sept 2 4-5pm
Not Enough Time | Choreographer: Naomi Henninger
Description: This is a contemporary piece where we will explore the concept of time and how we as human beings never feel like we have enough of it. I am looking for five dancers who are strong, capable, and full of energy. I’m looking for those able to go with the flow as needed.
Tuesday, Sept 2 5-6pm
The Last Broken Piece | Choreographer: Janelle Pratt
Description: This is a contemporary/lyrical piece that explores or represents what it feels like the be the outsider in your own life. I am looking for five dancers with minimal to moderate dance experience and can show strong emotions.
Wednesday, Sept 3 4-5pm
Falling Out of Love | Choreographer: Catherine Legutko
Description: This piece will explore the journey of different dancers going through different paths of their dance careers. Whether they are confident and creative, or shy and self-conscious, this contemporary-jazz piece will display dancers in a different light than considered before. I’m looking for 5 dancers with all different dance backgrounds to portray the story of Fallin’ in and out of Love with this beautiful sport we call “dance.”
Wednesday, Sept 3 5-6pm
Unscripted | Choreographer: DW Artistic Director
Description: This piece will be an improvisation structure in which dancers follow the rules of the structure and respond to expressive possibilities in the moment. Dancers who are comfortable with creating on the spot are welcome.
Thursday, Sept 4 4-4:45pm
Walk the Plank | Choreographer: Chloe Benjamin
Description: This is a jazz piece inspired by the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. I am looking for about five dancers who are ready to battle this fun piece and fill it with energy and humor. I am looking for dancers who can have fun.
Thursday, Sept 4 4:45-5:30pm
Power | Choreographer: Chloe Benjamin
Description: This is a contemporary piece about the cyclical nature of power, domination and repression in the world. Pink Floyd’s music will score the dance and I’m looking for five dancers who can connect to the music through their movement. I want dancers who can move the audience with this piece.
Friday, Sept 5 4-5pm
Soul Sisters | Choreographer: Jahniya James — Senior Capstone Project
Description: A bold, soulful jazz piece about the spark of friendship, the fire of women’s community, and that instant zing when connections just click. Playful call-and-response, fierce harmonies, and bursts of rhythm bring laughter, strength, and spirit of sisterhood to life.
