My research focuses on the intersection between behavioral ecology and sensory biology – basically how bats and other mammals use sensory information during foraging, decision-making and navigation. I am specifically interested in how bats use their sense of smell and understanding how insect-eating bats use odor cues for social interactions and hunting insects. As a new professor, I will be looking to set up bat monitoring on and around campus and test how bats respond to odor lures. I am also interested broadly in questions around foraging decisions, memory and search behaviors in other mammals and in birds. I am also passionate about science communication and naturalist outreach and would love to explore projects related to how we teach and communicate science to a broader public.
