Whether you’re exploring new career paths, or looking to complete a previously started degree, at Cedar Crest College, we see you building a personalized education experience. The General Studies major is a flexible, interdisciplinary degree that allows students to combine various subjects (humanities, social sciences, arts, etc.) to create an individualized academic pathway. Designed for those finishing a degree with existing credits or exploring multiple career options, the program emphasizes broad, transferable skills—including critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication that prepare graduates for a wide range of careers. Unlike more specialized majors, General Studies offers a broad foundation rather than a deep focus in a single discipline, making it an excellent choice for adult learners and students with transfer credits.

How the General Studies Program Works
A faculty advisor will work closely with each student to develop a personalized course plan based on prior coursework and current interests, creating a clear and individualized path to graduation.

The program is designed to fit your schedule and can be completed at your own pace—online, in person, or in a hybrid format.

A Bachelor’s Degree May be Closer Than You Think
Bringing previous college credits with you? That’s okay. We recognize the effort you’ve already invested in your education, which is why this degree was designed with transfer students in mind. The General Studies major is ideal for students who have earned college credits, completed an associate degree, or stepped away from college and are ready to return. Many previously earned credits—from Cedar Crest or other institutions—may apply toward your degree, allowing you to move forward without starting over.

A transfer counselor will help ensure that your prior coursework is accredited and applicable to your degree. Students may transfer up to 68 credits from community colleges and up to 90 credits from four-year institutions.

With sufficient transfer credits, this degree can be completed in as little as one year.
