Master of Education Application Requirements

To be considered for admission to the program, applicants must submit the following items using the application portal at www.cedarcrest.edu/apply:

  • A completed admission application, found at www.cedarcrest.edu/apply.
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions of higher education
    • Transcripts from institutions located outside the United States will need to be accompanied by an official course-by-course evaluation, with degree equivalency, completed by a NACES-recognized foreign transcript evaluation agency, such as World Education Services (www.wes.org).
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals qualified to evaluate the applicant’s potential for graduate study. Recommendations may include a current employer, school administrator, teacher who has completed graduate-level coursework, or faculty from the most recently attended academic institution.
  • A personal essay.

Students applying through a partnership school district only need to provide a copy of their transcripts as part of the application process; all other application requirements are waived. Contact SAGE for a list of partner schools.

Master of Education Admission Requirements

To be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of bachelor’s degree awarded by an accredited college or university. Applicants may apply while finishing their bachelor’s degree requirements, however the degree must be conferred, as shown on an official transcript, prior to the start of the student’s first matriculated semester at Cedar Crest College.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). However, applications are reviewed holistically, and applicants with a GPA below 3.0 may be granted conditional or provisional admission at the discretion of the program director if their application materials demonstrate the potential for success in the program. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 must be earned during the first 9 credit hours of graduate work taken at Cedar Crest College for provisionally accepted students to gain formal acceptance into their program.

Admissions Decisions

The Director of the Graduate Education Program will make final admissions decisions on the basis of the following criteria: grade point average, writing sample, letters of recommendation, related experience, and background. Candidates will be considered from a holistic perspective. The Department reserves the right to ask the prospective candidate for additional information. Candidates will be advised of their admission status via email within 10 days after all application materials are submitted. Admission decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

Hear from Your Peers

The Art of Teaching program was a wonderful experience! The online/hybrid options made it easy for me to balance work, family, and school. Each class I took was so insightful and contained a good balance of theory and practice. The readings provided me with solid background information, while the assignments gave me the opportunity to connect this knowledge with my experiences and think about how I would apply it in the classroom. My professors did a great job bringing the textbooks ‘to life’ and had so much expertise in the field that I was able to learn from. Dr. Kamyab was especially supportive from beginning to end. Thank you, Cedar Crest, for helping me ‘soar ahead!’
