Join us in Alcove C to virtually meet Scott Nelson! He’ll discuss how he found the real John Henry, and what that story can tell us about work, freedom, and rock and roll.

Scott Nelson is the Georgia Athletic Association Professor of History at the University of Georgia. He is most recently the author of Oceans of Grain: How American Wheat Remade the World (Basic Books, 2022). His other books include Steel Drivin’ Man (2007), about the life of Black folklore legend John Henry, which won four national awards including the National Award for Arts Writing and the Merle Curti Prize for best book in US social history.
