Cedar Crest College is committed to providing resources for all parties affected by acts of sexual misconduct. While some of these resources are intended for complainants/victims and respondents/accused parties, we acknowledge that sexual misconduct can have an impact on others who connected to either party.

Please use the resources that best fit your needs. If you are in need of further information or resources, do not hesitate to contact the Dean of Students/Title IX Office for additional support.

Resources for Complainants

Resources marked with a (+) are confidential and privileged- they will not report incidents to the College, unless requested by the survivor. Resources marked with a (*) are confidential- they will not report the name(s) of involved parties but are required to report basic information to the College.

On Campus Resources: Complainant

If you have any questions about sexual misconduct or need help following an act of sexual misconduct, the following College offices and staff members can offer information and support. Choose any office or person with whom you feel most comfortable.

Counseling Services (+) 610-606-4666 ext. 4640, offers confidential counseling to traditional and residential SAGE students who have been sexually assaulted or victimized, whether recently or in the past. All counseling is confidential. This means that the counselor cannot speak with others about the student’s situation without the student’s permission. Our graduate students and SAGE undergraduate students can utilize Better Help for their confidential counseling needs, the counselors through Better Help cannot speak about a student’s situation without their permission.

Student Health Services (*) 610-606-4666 ext. 4640 offers confidential medical assistance for traditional and SAGE residential students who have been sexually assaulted. Student Health Services is open Monday through Friday (during the academic year) from 8:30am until 4:30pm. For urgent medical care when the office is closed please call 911, go directly to the nearest emergency room, or call Campus Police.

Post assault forensic evidence collection (commonly referred to as a “rape kit”) is not available at Student Health Services. However, staff can help locate medical providers who offer this service. St. Luke’s Hospital and Lehigh Valley Health Network have SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners) nurses within their staff.

Campus Police 610-437-4471, Campus Police is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. College police officers will make all efforts to follow up on any crimes that occur on campus within the scope of the law and will provide support and referral options. Persons who have experienced sexual misconduct may want to consider preserving all physical evidence, regardless of whether or not they want to press charges. Choosing not press charges immediately does not prohibit one from doing so in the future, and physical evidence will be important to the case. College police will honor all Protection from Abuse Orders and No Contact Directives, as copies of these are kept on file with the department. For off campus incidents, Campus Police can assist in identifying and connecting with law enforcement in the municipality where the crime may have occurred.

Title IX Coordinator/Dean of Student’s Office 610-606-4628 offers assistance to students, faculty, or staff in matters regarding sexual harassment and sexual misconduct. The Title IX Coordinator can:

  • discuss situations that may give rise to a complaint of sexual harassment or sexual misconduct and provide options for addressing the situation;
  • oversees fact finding investigations into complaints of sexual misconduct;
  • oversees investigations of complaints of sexual harassment against College employees or students;
  • provide interim measures for issues of discrimination, sexual harassment, or sexual misconduct;
  • facilitate adjustments to on-campus transportation, parking, or work and other measures to ensure the safety of both parties and
  • assist College personnel and students with questions about sexual misconduct policies and procedures.

In addition, the Title IX Coordinator/Assistant Dean of Student’s monitors and oversees complaints of discrimination and harassment in compliance with federal regulations.

Additional On-Campus Resources

Department of Athletics 610-606-4634, Lees Hall. Students may choose to contact them for help filing a report and locating appropriate resources such as medical care and counseling.

Office of Residence Life 610-606-4603, Butz Hall. The Department of Residence Life and Housing has live-in staff available to residential students involved with sexual misconduct. The live-in staff includes an Assistant Director, Graduate Area Coordinator, and Resident Assistants. Staff members can assist with room changes in consultation with the Title IX Coordinator.

Office of Disability Services 610-606-4628, Cressman Library. Students may choose to contact the Director for assistance with submitting a report and identifying appropriate resources.

The Center for Diversity and Inclusion 610-606-4666 ext. 4554, Allen House. Offers a supportive environment for all students at Cedar Crest College. The Center for Diversity and Inclusion coordinates services, programs and referrals that enrich the academic and personal development of students of more diverse identities. In matters of sexual misconduct, the Center for Diversity and Inclusion provides information and referral/reporting assistance to students.

Off-Campus Resources: Complainant

In addition to the numerous services on campus, there are many additional services and organization available for those who have experienced sexual misconduct.

Crime Victims’ Council of the Lehigh Valley (CVC) (+) is located 2132 S. 12th St, Suite 101, Allentown, PA 18103. The CVC provides free and confidential support to members of the Cedar Crest community who have been a victim of any type of crim. They offer court and hospital accompaniment, and they assign an advocate to help victims, significant others, and family members through the entire process. They have a 24-hour hotline for sexual assault (610-437-6611). Their business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.

Turning Point of Lehigh Valley (+) is located 444 E. Susquehanna St, Allentown, PA  18103. Turning Point provides confidential support to members of the Cedar Crest community who have been victims of domestic and intimate partner abuse. They offer temporary shelter/safe house, counseling, and legal advocacy. They have a 24-hour hotline (610-437-3369). Their business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.

The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) (+) is a nationwide organization that provides free and confidential support for victims of sexual assault. They offer immediate crisis help and information about recovery. They can be reached on their hotline (1-800-656-HOPE), or by visiting their website and online hotline at www.rainn.org

Resources for Respondents

On-Campus Resources: Students Accused of Sexual Misconduct
